As a reminder, Wednesday evening, a driver who had consumed alcohol knocked down a person who was crossing on a pedestrian crossing located rue Cockerill, in Seraing. The driver then fled.
According to the first elements collected, the impact was particularly violent and the victim had been thrown regarding twenty meters, which suggests that the vehicle was traveling at high speed. Seriously injured, the 60-year-old man was taken to hospital. He suffered from head trauma and multiple fractures.
Barely five minutes following the incident, the driver was arrested by a police patrol in the Seraing-Neupré area. The car’s windshield was badly damaged and the driver was nervous when he was stopped.
He tested positive for alcohol and tests have yet to determine whether he had possibly consumed narcotics.
At the time of the accident, the vehicle was in default of insurance, technical control and registration. The driver had lost his driving license and therefore might not drive.
The man who knocked down the pedestrian is already well known to the courts for a dozen facts in terms of traffic.
He had been referred Friday morning to the Liège prosecutor’s office. Without real surprise, he had been placed under an arrest warrant.
