In its most recent annual report, Activision devoted itself to the “Call of Duty” series and published some details regarding the current games as well as the upcoming experiences.
The Call of Duty series will continue in 2022. And the development of “this year’s Premium and Warzone experiences led by Infinity Ward” is progressing well, according to publisher Activision.
The company also reconfirmed that this year’s Call of Duty is the sequel to 2019’s Modern Warfare. It’s said to be the “most advanced experience in franchise history.”
Built from the ground up alongside the regular Call of Duty game, the new free-to-play Warzone experience features “groundbreaking innovations to be unveiled later this year,” according to Activision. Whether it is another update of the existing “Warzone” or really a kind of “Warzone 2” is coming to the players is not clear without a doubt.
Declining Call of Duty sales
“Call of Duty” net bookings on console and PC declined year-over-year in the first quarter, which Activision said was due to lower premium sales of “Call of Duty: Vanguard” year-over-year and year-over-year lower engagement with Call of Duty: Warzone. “Call of Duty Mobile” net bookings were almost flat compared to the prior-year quarter.
Net Bookings describes the net amount generated from products and services and includes royalties, merchandise, in-game , strategy guides and similar things in addition to sales of the digital and physical games. It is therefore the posted net sales.
Development team has been expanded
In today’s release of its latest business results, Activision also highlighted that Call of Duty development resources continued to expand during the first quarter.
“The growing teams are focused on bringing even more compelling content to the community on PC and console, and expanding Warzone to the mobile platform,” the company said.
