September 3rd is a historical milestone for the Greek and political course

An account of the 50 years since the founding of PASOK and its role in the political history of Greece was made by the historical executive of the Movement, Telemachos Chytiris.

“September 3 stands out not just as the date of the establishment of a political party, but as a decisive turning point for the country’s course, due to the changes and policies brought by PASOK. PASOK brought to Greece for the first time a social policy that put the citizen at the center, highlighting that the government cares about him. It is this change of mentality and social reforms that, in his view, make the establishment of PASOK so important,” said the former minister, speaking to ERT.

In addition, Mr. Chytiris referred to “the need for a bold and innovative policy, which does not simply follow the developments, but guides them and invoked “the vision, the will, and the courage that characterized the PASOK movement and its leader, Andreas Papandreou, as elements that led to the success and impact of the movement”.

Mr. Chytiris also commented on today’s political scene, expressing concerns about the influence of economic centers on politics and the absence of inspirational leaders who touch the hearts of citizens and stressed “the need for politicians with vision, courage, and honesty, who will they are heard and will inspire”, while he cited as an example “the period of the establishment of PASOK and the ideological and social reforms it brought”.

In closing, Mr. Chytiris argued that “politics must be a form of vanguardism and not just an administrative function. Political leaders must be at the fore, propose solutions and honestly express their views and vision, which he believes is necessary to restore politics to the center of social life” and added “I cannot restore, as you can imagine, Andreas Papandreou. Andreas Papandreou is unique. But what mattered was that Andreas Papandreou took the people’s request and made it a reality. He made it a program, he made it a perspective. He was the one who inspired, he was the one who connected. But all this needs dedication. We need to think. We need to be bold, to call a spade a spade. To strive to be among the people. Always have this sensorium, have a perspective and express this perspective. When the politician speaks, he must be heard, he must be discussed by the people.”
