Authorized by the concession regulations to participate in the traditional pre-season shakedown in the company of test riders from other teams, the official Yamaha and Honda riders saw on Saturday, like the day before, their track time reduced by a major tropical storm which prematurely ended this day of testing in Sepang, Malaysia.
Fabio Quartararo and Álex Rins on the Yamaha side, Joan Mir, Luca Marini, Johann Zarco and Takaaki Nakagami on the Honda side, still took the opportunity to explore as many new technical features and adjustment possibilities as possible. As with Aprilia and KTM, numerous aerodynamic appendages with sometimes surprising shapes were seen on the track, particularly at the level of the fins at the end of the saddle or the fairings.
Rookie Pedro Acosta (GasGas Tech 3) set the best time of the week, ahead of one of the KTM test riders Pol Espargaro. Third time, Zarco was the fastest of the Honda riders. He is ahead of Quartararo’s Yamaha.
On Monday, Quartararo and Rins will unveil the colors of their M1 from Malaysia, before returning to the track from Tuesday for three days of official tests this time, alongside the entire 2024 field.
