The government has presented an adjustment plan for the extension section of Seoul Subway Line 5, which has been lagging due to conflict between Incheon City and Gimpo City, Gyeonggi Province. It includes a plan to pass through two stations (Ara-dong and Wondang-dong) in Incheon’s Geomdan New Town, but to adjust the stop in the Incheon-Gimpo border area to Gampo-dong, Gimpo. The adjustment plan is scheduled to be finalized in May following collecting opinions from residents until next month.
On the 19th, the Metropolitan Transportation Committee of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport revealed the route adjustment plan for the ‘Seoul Subway Line 5 Gimpo Geomdan Extension Project’, including the above information. The number of stops on the extension line in the adjustment plan is 10, including 7 in Gimpo, 2 in Incheon, and 1 in Seoul. So far, the government has been discussing the extension section of Line 5 with Incheon City and Gimpo City, but their positions are sharply different and they have not been properly coordinated. The ‘U-shaped’ route that Incheon City previously submitted to the government last year has a total of 11 stations, including 4 stations in Incheon, 6 in Gimpo, and 1 in Seoul. On the other hand, the number of ‘I-shaped’ routes submitted by Gimpo City was 2 within Incheon jurisdiction, which was less than that within Incheon City.
Kang Hee-eop, Chairman of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s Lighting and Lighting Committee, said, “I hope that local governments will unanimously accept this adjustment plan and expedite the use of Line 5 by local residents.” “We will discuss the need for reflection,” he said.
