Senior U.S. official arrives in Guatemala to meet with government officials

Michele Sison, Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs of the U.S. Government, will travel to Guatemala, El Salvador and Chile from August 21 to 27 to meet with senior officials from the three nations, Washington reported on Wednesday, August 21.
According to the U.S. government, Sison will meet with Salvadoran Vice President Felix Ulloa; Salvadoran Foreign Minister Alexandra Hill; Guatemalan Foreign Minister Carlos Ramiro Martinez; Chilean Foreign Minister Rodrigo Olsen; and UN officials to reiterate the U.S. commitment to working together on common global challenges.
In Santiago, Sison will reportedly meet with José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, executive secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), where he will underscore the U.S. commitment to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.
“During her trip, Assistant Secretary Sison will discuss areas of common multilateral interest, including the upcoming UN General Assembly High-Level Week, the Future Summit, peacekeeping, working together to address conflict and crises, supporting humanitarian needs, and building a more inclusive international system,” the U.S. government said in a statement.
He added that the talks will also focus on transnational challenges such as food insecurity and climate change.
