Senior Superintendent of Police suffered eye injuries during a jogging attack in Kai Tak and was sent to hospital for treatment

A Kai Tak police superintendent was suddenly attacked while running and suffered eye injuries.

At around 1 pm today (18th), a senior superintendent of police from the Kowloon East Region was jogging on Shing Kai Road in Kai Tak. While passing through Prince Edward Road east to the footbridge of Choi Yi Garden, he met a suspicious person at the bottom of the footbridge. The disorderly person passed by each other without any contact or eye contact, but was suddenly punched by the other person. The person then fled along Coordination Road towards Kowloon Bay.

The attacker is suspected to be mentally disordered

The police superintendent suffered injuries to the bridge of his nose, eyes and eyebrows. He called the police on his own and followed the other party. A police officer driving a stealth vehicle saw the incident and immediately got out of the vehicle to assist. The attacker was arrested on the sidewalk 200 meters away from the incident site. It is understood that he was talking to himself and was initially suspected to be a mentally disordered person.

The two were sent to the hospital for treatment together

The ambulance crew arrived at the scene following receiving the report. After examination, both of them were sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance for treatment. The case is now being investigated by the First Team of the Criminal Investigation Team of Sau Mau Ping Police District. According to reports, the person who was attacked was Senior Superintendent Yu Weiliang of the East Kowloon Traffic Department.
