Veteran singer Hong Min, who was popular in the 1970s with hit songs such as ‘Farewell’ and ‘Farewell’, passed away on the 2nd following a battle with colon cancer. He died at the age of 76.

Born in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do in 1947, the deceased first entered the music industry with ‘Missing Someone’, a composition by Kim Dong-ju, released as a duet with Jang Mi-ra in 1971. The following year, in 1972, he remade the adapted song ‘Farewell’ and Park Si-chun’s composition ‘Hometown Elementary’ with an attractive low-pitched voice and received great response.

Hongmin later dominated the 1970s with songs such as ‘Farewell’, ‘Park Bench’, and ‘Long-Hyang’. He was once nicknamed the ‘Masam Trio’ along with Lee Soo-man and Jang Hyun.

Singer Kim Do-hyang, who watched Hong Min’s popularity at the time, even said, “He was the originator of my brother’s unit.”

Hong Min appeared on a TV program in 2019 and revealed his family history, saying that his father defected to North Korea when he was young, and his mother left home to look for him and never returned.

Hongmin also appeared on KBS 1TV’s ‘Gayo Stage’ in July of this year and sang ‘To the Land of Happiness’ while carrying a guitar. It is said that he volunteered to appear on KBS even though he was already very unwell at the time. This became Hongmin’s last stage.

It is known that the deceased continued his singing activities while running a live cafe in Jecheon, North Chungcheong Province. Afterwards, her health deteriorated and she closed down her business. He was also appointed as a public relations ambassador for Jecheon City in 2013.

Park Seong-seo, a popular music critic, said, “Hong Min had a deep voice and used quiet folk music,” and added, “He was one of the singers who led youth culture in the 1970s.”

The mortuary was set up at the Jecheon Sejong Funeral Home in Jecheon, North Chungcheong Province. The funeral took place at 7 a.m. on the 4th.
