An elderly couple found dead inside their Fairfax County home Tuesday may have died by murder-suicide, authorities say.
A friend discovered the couple’s bodies inside the home in the 8900 block of Walker Street in Fairfax, Virginia and called police around 10:15 p.m., according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
The deceased were identified as Janos John Gertler, 86, and Eva Anna Vas, 73.
Investigators believe Gertler shot Vas and later died by suicide. Officers found casing cartridges and a firearm in the home.
Our sister network News4 spoke to neighbors who described the couple as quiet but friendly.
Peter Arrington, who has lived next door to the couple for 20 years, said he never expected to see police at their neighbors’ house.
“Oh, it’s terrible. It’s horrible,” Arrington said.
Authorities were still at the scene Wednesday morning and are continuing to investigate.
