Senegal’s Role in Mediating the Russian-Ukrainian Conflict: President Macky Sall’s Commitment for Lasting Peace

Dakar, June 16 (APS) – President Macky Sall reiterated, Friday in kyiv, Senegal’s readiness to work for the return of lasting peace in Ukraine.

”I thank President Zelensky for his welcome. Senegal reiterates its availability to work for the return of a lasting peace in Ukraine in accordance with the rules of international law,” he tweeted.

The Senegalese head of state in the company of five of his African counterparts met the Ukrainian president in kyiv as part of an African mediation of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

”We came mainly to listen and we heard President Zelensky. And tomorrow we will go to Saint Petersburg to meet President Putin, also listen to him and discuss with him,” Macky Sall told reporters following the meeting in remarks reported by the news site of International Radio France.

Previously, the group of African mediators of the conflict, had gone to Boutcha, a peripheral locality of the Ukrainian capital, scene according to the Ukrainian part of a massacre of many civilians attributed to the Russian army.
