Diamniadio, July 9 (APS) – Senegal will have a fleet of 22 trains at the end of the works of the second phase of the Regional Express Train (TER), allowing a “significant increase in traffic thanks to the connection with the Blaise Diagne de Diass international airport”, announced the President of the Republic, Macky Sall.

“From fifteen trains in the first phase, each able to accommodate up to five hundred and sixty-five (565) passengers, we will soon increase to twenty-two (22) trains in the second phase of the Regional Express Train,” said underlined the Head of State, inaugurating on Saturday the TER railway station at Blaise Diagne airport at a cost of eight billion CFA francs.

The reinforcement of this park will thus allow a “significant increase in traffic thanks to the connection with the Blaise Diagne de Diass international airport”.

”At the end of the work, he said, AIBD passengers will have the choice of taking the motorway or the TER as in all modern countries. Also, the TER will offer passengers from Dakar and the surrounding area new transit possibilities.”

The Head of State underlined his ambition to ”offer” the Senegalese ”a modern mass transport system”. ”I remind you that our ambition with the TER was to offer Senegal a modern mass transport system that meets the requirements of comfort, regularity, speed, mobility, but also safety and security. This is the meaning of the TER but also of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) which will soon be better in service as a modern mass transport system worthy of an emerging country”.

President Sall believes that this must be done ”in continuity of service while respecting environmental standards since the TER runs on electricity”.
