On social networks, complaints from Senelec customers are multiplying to denounce the increase in electricity bills throughout Senegal. A petition launched last month to say “no to this excessive increase” has already collected nearly 44,000 signatures. “ We cannot accept that certain invoices go from single to double, to quintuple, or even tenfold without any explanation. “, says the petition

Its initiator, journalist Oumy Ndour, had just submitted the signatures to the general director of Senelec on October 12, accompanied by a memorandum which requests, among other things, a review of the invoicing system. It is from this document that the Energy Sector Regulatory Commission took action to conduct an investigation into the billing system with all stakeholders – that is to say consumers, Senelec and the Ministry in charge of Energy – in order to see where the problem lies.

If the terms of reference have not yet been defined, the timetable has not been announced either. “ What interests us is not just an investigation but a drop in the price of energy », Claims Momar Ndao, president of the Senegal consumer association.
