Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko unveiled on Friday the list of members of his government made up of 25 ministers and 5 Secretaries of State.

“It is a government team in line with our project for Senegal. It is a government which embodies the project of systemic transformation,” said the Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, before the announcement, by the Secretary General of the Presidency, Omar Samba Ba, of the composition of the government.

Mr. Sonko stressed that “it is a coherent and rationalized government in terms of ministries”. “It is also a government of proximity, innovation and efficiency exclusively at the service of the essential well-being of the Senegalese,” added the Senegalese Prime Minister.

The new government team is marked by the presence of senior officers in key positions such as the former Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, General Birame Diop as Minister of the Armed Forces and former high commander of the gendarmerie and director of military justice, Jean Baptiste Tine, who will occupy the post of Minister of the Interior.

Yacine Fall, an important figure in the political entourage of the Head of State and the Prime Minister, will head the Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs. She is one of four women on the government team.

More well-known political actors are also entering the government, such as Moustapha Guirassy, ​​campaign director of Bassirou Diomaye Faye during the presidential election and Abdourakhmane Diouf in the post of Higher Education, Research and Innovation .

Cheikh Tidiane Dièye, the presidential election candidate who withdrew in favor of the winner of the March 24 presidential election, was appointed head of the Ministry of Hydraulics and Sanitation.

Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye appointed, last Tuesday, a few hours after his inauguration, the president of the Pastef party, Ousmane Sonko to the post of Prime Minister.
