The Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS), the formation of Karim Wade, was rejected by the Supreme Court on Friday March 15, when it hoped to obtain a new postponement of the presidential election and a restart from zero of the electoral process. Since this setback, Karim Wade, still in exile in Doha, Qatar, has remained silent, as has his party. But the camp of the son of former president Abdoulaye Wade refuses to give up, less than a week before the first round.

Behind the scenes, discussions took place this weekend within the PDS. And according to a manager, a communication should be made at the beginning of the week.

Karim Wade can he still obtain the cancellation of the current electoral process? Technically, the Supreme Court was the last resort. But the same official explains that the former president’s party does not admit defeat: “ We hold all the cards. » He recalls that the PDS vote pool is very important. The party therefore sees itself as kingmaker and might, if it gave a voting instruction, reverse the trend.

Amadou Ba, majority candidate, knows this well. In the campaign on Friday, he made a call: “ We have the same values and the same concerns. » He also recalled that he had cut his teeth in politics with Abdoulaye Wade. The two parties come from the same political family, even if they have been rivals for a long time. In 2022, the Wallu coalition of the PDS had also allied itself with Yewwi Askan Wi and Pastef for the legislative elections.

In the ranks of the PDS, many people categorically refuse any support for the former Prime Minister. The group accuses Amadou Ba of having corrupted judges of the Constitutional Council to reject the candidacy of Karim Wade. Other alliances might be formed, but the party might also choose to remain neutral. In 2019, the candidacy of Karim Wade was also invalidated, and the PDS had not given voting instructions.
