SENEGAL-TRAINING / Goudiry: the Agri-Food Professional Training Center is struggling to reach the expected number of staff (director) – Senegalese Press Agency

Goudiry, July 23 (APS) – The Agri-Food Professional Training Center (CFPA) in Goudiry (east) has faced challenges in reaching its desired enrollment numbers since it opened in October 2021, according to the director Lamine Diop.

“We aimed for 250 to 300 students, but currently, we only have 106 enrolled,” Mr. Diop informed APS.

He attributed this situation to difficulties stemming from the lack of accommodation options in Goudiry for young learners, most of whom come from other areas within the department and beyond.

“Local authorities need to make efforts to assist CFPA students in finding housing in Goudiry so they can adequately pursue their studies,” he emphasized.

Mr. Diop highlighted that most CFPA students are from the Goudiry department, with some also hailing from the Sédhiou and Thiès regions.

He noted that the center offers seven training courses, including catering, livestock farming, horticulture, food processing, office administration, metal welding, and community health.

Regarding career opportunities from the CFPA, the director mentioned that the Ministry of Vocational Training focuses on “both salaried employment and self-employment.”

“Young people currently in training are being introduced to entrepreneurship, enabling them to finish their training with a business plan that can be presented to state-established organizations for support,” he added.
