Dakar, July 1 (APS) – Senegal will chair the Peace and Security Council of the African Union for the month of July, APS learned from an official source on Saturday.

“After the presidency of the African Union (2022-2023), Senegal is still honored to ensure, for the month of July, that of the Peace and Security Council of the continental organization”, announced the Senegalese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In a press release sent to the Senegalese Press Agency, Senegalese diplomacy said that this mandate would be in the service of peace on the African continent.

“Community responses to security challenges in Africa and the field mission of the AU Peace and Security Council in the Sahel will be at the center of this presidency,” the statement said.

Among the priorities of the Senegalese Chairmanship of the PSC are the periodic consultative meeting with the Economic Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) of the AU and the review of the semi-annual report of the Chairperson of the AU Commission on elections on the continent. , indicates the source.

The AU Peace and Security Council is a permanent decision-making body in matters of conflict prevention, management and resolution in Africa.
