The National Audiovisual Regulatory Council had given formal notice to the private press group DMedia to put an end to Ahmed Aïdara’s press reviews. The journalist, member of the opposition coalition Yewwi Askan Wi was elected new mayor of Guédiawaye in the suburbs of Dakar during local elections at the end of January. The regulatory body denounced “breaches of the principles of objectivity, neutrality, fairness and balance” in its interventions. The warnings were not acted upon. The suspension runs until Sunday, 6 p.m., but the chains risk “heavier sanctions”, “in the event of a repeat offence”, indicates the CNRA.
