Senegalese President Macky Sall received on Monday the report of the national dialogue which proposes to set June 2 as the date of the next presidential election and plans to refer the matter to the Constitutional Council to obtain its opinion, the Senegalese presidency announced on Monday.

“The report of the national dialogue was submitted to the President this Monday. He plans to refer the matter to the Constitutional Council to obtain its opinion on the date of the election and following April 2. The head of state also saluted the genius Senegalese to overcome the difficulties,” announced the Senegalese presidency on X (formerly Twitter).

At the end of two days of consultations convened by Mr. Sall, the participants in the national dialogue proposed to set June 2, 2024 for the next presidential election and extend the mandate of President Sall, which ends on April 2, until the election. of a successor following the June 2 vote.

On February 2, a few hours before the start of the electoral campaign, Mr. Sall announced the postponement of the presidential election initially scheduled for February 25, due to a dispute over the list of candidates. The National Assembly of Senegal adopted a bill on the same day requesting a six-month postponement of the election.

On February 15, the Constitutional Council annulled, for unconstitutionality, the postponement of the presidential election voted by the National Assembly.
