The outgoing head of state notably announced this decision following having informed of the opinion of the Constitutional Council regarding the conclusions, recommendations and proposals of the National Dialogue relating to the setting of the date of the presidential election, the possible examination candidacies for the presidential election, the arrangements to be made upon the expiration of the mandate.

The Constitutional Council rejected, on Wednesday, all the proposals of the National Dialogue proposing in particular that the postponed presidential election be held on June 2, 2024.

The Constitutional Council ruled that the postponed presidential election should take place before the official end of the mandate of the outgoing head of state, Macky Sall on April 2, thus rejecting the recommendation made to the latter by the participants in the National Dialogue held on April 26 and February 27 to organize the election on June 2, 2024, according to the decision made public Wednesday evening.
