Opponent Ousmane Sonko was arrested on Friday July 28 outside his home by the gendarmerie.

The leader of Pastef, already sentenced to two years in prison in absentia for “corruption of youth”, was taken into custody for “theft of mobile phones and calling for an insurrection”, according to the Dakar prosecutor’s office. His lawyers denounce a “ridiculous accusation”.

In a press release, the public prosecutor at the Dakar special court, indicates that: “for some time, it has been noted once morest Mr. Ousmane Sonko acts, declarations, writings, images, and maneuvers on different mediums and in different circumstances. »

Long before his arrest, Sonko had reported the presence of general intelligence agents outside his home in a tweet. He also claimed to have snatched the phone of one of these agents who was filming him and asked him to delete the images taken. Ousmane Sonko accuses these agents of having stolen property from him consisting of “4 mobile phones, a MacBook Pro computer, my weapon with authorization, a suitcase containing clothes and the sum of two million CFA francs during my kidnapping in Koungheul”.

He asks the people to be ready to face “these endless abuses”.

This Saturday morning, one of his lawyers said he prevented him from accessing his client. Irritated by this situation, he intends to file a complaint.
