Dakar, June 27 (APS) – Senegal is fully committed to the “Red Card” campaign once morest all forms of discrimination and violence once morest women and girls, said the Secretary General of the Ministry of Woman, Family, Gender and Child Protection, Mame Ngor Diouf.
”This is an excellent initiative that is perfectly in line with the global movement in favor of the elimination of all discrimination once morest women and girls and the government of Senegal is fully committed to this movement through the ratification of all the relevant legal instruments,” said Mame Ngor Diouf.
On Monday, he chaired the launch of the “Red Card” campaign, an initiative of the African Renaissance and Diaspora Network (ARDN), in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), under the leadership of the Ministry of Women, Family, Gender and Child Protection.
Regarding the elimination of all forms of discrimination once morest women and girls, Mr. Diouf underlined that it “is regarding the Convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination once morest women , the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the Maputo Protocol on the Protection of Women’s Rights”.
”Beyond a protective legal framework, there is the strategic framework in accordance with the Emerging Senegal Plan which places human capital as a major axis of intervention. In this human capital, women and young people occupy an important place,” he added.
For Djibril Diallo, President and CEO of the African Renaissance and Diaspora Network (ARDN), “the main objective of the campaign is to accelerate advocacy and awareness-raising once morest violence once morest women and girls to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals”.
According to him, ”it’s regarding using the mobilizing power of sport and culture to strengthen the global movement in favor of the fight once morest violence once morest women and girls”.
The launch ceremony took place in the presence of the Special Envoy of the President of the Republic, Aminata Touré, and Chantal Yelu Mulop, Special Advisor to the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, in charge of Youth and the Fight once morest violence once morest women.
Chantal Yelu Mulop was named ‘ARDN Goodwill Ambassador’ on the sidelines of the ”Dakar Declaration”, which, according to Djibril Diallo, ”is a call to action for the elimination violence once morest women and girls.
The “Red Card” campaign once morest discrimination and violence once morest women and girls has already been launched in several countries in Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America and the United States by the ARDN, in partnership with UNFPA, UN Women, UNDP/Africa, UNHABITAT, the French Presidential Council for Africa, the Government of Costa Rica and FIFA.
It is one of four entry points for popularizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), according to a press release.
