#Senegal : With 51 new cases of Covid-19 recorded on Saturday July 23, 2022, Senegal has again seen the contamination rate increase for the past few days. The contamination curve, which has remained downward for almost 6 months, has been showing signs of recovery for a few days.

More and more cases of Covid-19 are recorded in the Dakar region, but also inside the country, in a period of high heat, torrential rains, but also of the electoral campaign for the legislative elections of July 31. running.

The cause of this increase is to be found in the general relaxation of the population, as well as a new wave that has gone around the world. The health authorities have lifted all restrictions, the population circulates freely, the virus too.

For several months, the Senegalese have acted as if the coronavirus were an old memory, even if it happened that we recorded days without contamination, Senegal has never reached the level of zero Covid-19 patients since the appearance of the virus in Dakar in March 2020.

Faced with this upsurge in cases of Covid-19 contamination, civil society is sounding the alarm. According to the associations, which sensitize both the authorities and the populations, the groups which have not been supervised for several months, should be supervised again.

On the health and health policy side, no decision has been taken so far. According to Professor Seydi, head of the infectious diseases department at the University Hospital of Fann, the situation is still under control with the vaccine which has had positive effects, and in any case, the return to restrictive measures can no longer be considered as solution.
