Senegal: clashes in Casamance on the eve of a new summons for Ousmane Sonko

The Sonko case has once once more heightened tension and raised fears of an outburst of violence. The police reported the accidental death of a policeman, crushed by one of the armored vehicles deployed in Ziguinchor. The media reported several injuries among the demonstrators. Confusion reigned Monday, as well as total uncertainty over the intention of Ousmane Sonko, presumed to be in Ziguinchor, whether or not to go to court.

A mass was held in Goma in eastern DR Congo in tribute to the victims of the mudslides and landslides that occurred in the territory of Kalehe in early May. At least 438 people died in this tragedy according to the Congolese authorities and hundreds of people are still missing. Ulrich Crepin Namfeibona, MSF coordinator of the emergency team that arrived in Kalehe, explains to us what the survivors’ needs are.

In the Republic of Congo, the government has rejected accusations of embezzlement of funds allocated to Covid. The authorities had been questioned by a coalition report published last Friday. The government is accused of having embezzled more than 25 billion.
