Remittance shipments to Cuba through Western Union will remain suspended for the moment, and the company holds the Cuban authorities responsible for this situation.
Western Union, which had announced technical problems with Orbit, the non-bank financial entity that processes remittances, will not be able to resume its operations on the island as initially expected in April.
Exactly a week ago Western Union confirmed to Directorio Cubano that the restart of transfers to Cuba would not occur. They explained that there is no estimated date for remittances to the island to be processed once more.
Now, in new statements to Martí Noticias, a representative of Western Union confirmed that money transfers to Cuba will not resume. He said that the Cuban side has not made the necessary updates to its banking system.
“The date has been extended due to the lack of collaboration on the part of Cuba,” the source stated.
“Western Union hoped to resolve the situation by April. But unfortunately there is no news in the system regarding the problem we are facing. Therefore, shipments remain suspended,” he explained.
