Asuncion, IP Agency.- Tourism Minister Angie Duarte pointed out the potential of meeting tourism, a niche market that has already demonstrated Paraguay’s ability to host important events such as the Odesur Games and is now preparing for the World Rally Championship.
Starting with the 2022 ASU Games, there is an installed capacity that will allow it to host the Latin American Special Olympics Games, in October of this year, and the 2025 Junior Pan American Games, in addition to other candidacies that Paraguay will present.
The Paraguay World Rally Championship, to be held in Itapúa next year, is part of the meeting tourism. This will mark a before and after and it is an instruction from President Santiago Peña to put the focus on this event, said the minister in conversation with the Government Spokesperson.
As a sign of its potential, the Itapúa Rally that will be held as test event This September 21 and 22, the hotel occupancy rate is almost 100%, said the minister.
The promotion of this sector is part of a strategic plan by Senatur, worked on with the private sector and in coordination with Dinac, Migrations, and other institutions.
According to the Senatur Meetings Tourism Directorate, in the second quarter of 2024 (April, May, June) an economic movement of USD 20,085,256 was generated through events and conventions.
