Asuncion, IP Agency.- The National Secretariat of Tourism (Senatur) has presented a detailed report on the achievements made within the framework of the government program “Paraguay Crece.”
This report highlights important advances in air connectivity, the organisation of international events, tourism promotion and sustainable development. The most notable achievements and their impact on citizens are described below.
Increased air connectivity
One of the most significant advances is the increase in air connectivity. New routes have been added between Asunción and Santa Cruz de la Sierra, as well as between Asunción and Córdoba, facilitating access to Paraguay for international tourists. These new routes have been the result of coordinated work between Senatur, the National Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DINAC) and various airlines.
This increase in connectivity has allowed more tourists to visit the country, benefiting both national and foreign citizens. The improvement in air infrastructure has required an investment of approximately G. 390 million, which has strengthened Senatur’s institutional capacity to attract more airlines and improve the tourist experience.
Paraguay as a venue for international events
Our country has established itself as an attractive destination for holding congresses, conventions, fairs and sporting events.
In recent months, the country has hosted at least 20 international events, with an annual investment of G. 463 million. These events not only boost the local economy, especially in sectors such as hotels, restaurants and transport, but also generate significant knowledge transfer and networking opportunities.
It is estimated that during 2024, some 196,000 participants will attend various events in Paraguay, which might generate total revenues of around G. 293 billion. Among the most notable events are the 2024 Catholic Biennial, the Assembly of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and the IV Latin American Special Olympics Games.
National and international tourism promotion
Senatur has stepped up its efforts to promote tourism both nationally and internationally. During Holy Week, hotel occupancy in the country’s main destinations reached between 92% and 100%.
In addition, the arrival of 39,478 international tourists was recorded, mainly from Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Germany and the United States, representing a 43% increase in tourist flow compared to the previous period.
At the international level, Paraguay has participated in fairs and workshops in countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Portugal and Germany, exposing the country’s brand to more than 50,000 people. Investment in tourism promotion at the national level was G. 182 million, while at the international level it reached 5,486 million guaraníes.
Digital innovation in tourism
Senatur has launched the “Senatur Relacional” platform, which includes “Turisbot”, a tool with GPT-4 artificial intelligence from OpenAI. This platform allows tourists to make inquiries in more than 254 languages, offering a personalized experience. Since its launch in November 2023, Turisbot has registered 6,855 subscribers and has responded to 19,584 queries from tourists around the world.
The investment in this digital tool has been G. 8.6 million to date, and its continuous operation is expected throughout 2024. This innovation strengthens relational marketing actions and positions Paraguay as a smarter and more accessible tourist destination.
Sustainable tourism development
Senatur has implemented the “Sustainable and Participatory Management Plan for the Paraguayan Pantanal” in collaboration with the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).
This plan has restructured the investment to improve management efficiency, reaching 15% execution in just four months. Activities include training, technical assistance services and the construction of tourist infrastructure in Bahía Negra, Alto Paraguay department.
The beneficiaries of this project include associations of women entrepreneurs, young leaders and indigenous communities. Future actions will focus on training workshops and the development of tourism infrastructure, with a total investment of G. 2,042 million.
Impact on citizenship
Senatur’s achievements have had a significant impact on the Paraguayan economy and society.
Improved air connectivity and the promotion of international events have boosted key sectors such as hotels, restaurants and transport. In addition, digital innovation and a focus on sustainable tourism have strengthened Paraguay’s position as a competitive and attractive tourist destination.
The progress reported by Senatur within the framework of the “Paraguay Crece” program reflects a comprehensive effort to boost tourism in Paraguay, improving infrastructure, promoting the country abroad and fostering sustainability.
These actions not only benefit the local economy, but also improve the quality of life of citizens and position Paraguay as a tourist destination of excellence in the region.
