The Senator Piedad Cordoba lost another battle Supreme Court following the Special Instruction Room decided that it would remain linked to the investigations carried out once morest him for farcpolitics, where they hope to establish their links with the extinct FARC and the controversial businessman Alex Saab.
The truth is that this would be the second fight that the senator has given to have that process filed once morest her. The first time she tried to evade the case, filed a request for annulment of the investigation carried out by the high court. In addition, he challenged magistrate Cristina Lombana and alleged that he did not have sufficient guarantees in terms of impartiality.
By that time, the lawyer from Córdoba, Ximena Castillo, filed an appeal in which it was warned that the magistrate, in whose office the process is still in the preliminary stage, had a “military mentality, even if she took off her uniform.”
According to the senator’s defense, this mentality might call into question her impartiality when judging a “left-wing senator.” Additionally, it was claimed that Lombana did not have 100% of her capacity to work in the Court.
However, for the Court none of this had the weight to knock down the investigation and, therefore, the petition was rejected by the Chamber.
Córdoba did not stop and once morest that order the congresswoman filed another appeal to overturn the decision. Now, regarding that card that the senator played to annul the investigation, the Chamber ruled and finally decided not to modify the decision. In other words, the process is still going strong.
This process once morest the senator returned to the public spotlight following one of her former advisors, Andrés Vásquez Moreno, accused her of allegedly using mediation and the release of hostages for political purposes. One of those cases would be that of Betancourt, who was released in 2008 in the middle of Operation Jaque.
In a report by Noticias Caracol, the former adviser assured that Córdoba and the FARC had reached an agreement to obtain the greatest possible political benefit with the release of the hostages, both for her and for the then president of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez.
This decision of the Court adds to the lost battles that the senator has had, such as the failure to stop the extradition of his brother, Álvaro Córdoba.
