PAlmost four out of ten French-speaking students in 4e primary are considered precarious readers. With all their little comrades, they occupy the last place in the ranking between comparable countries. It was the 2021 edition of the international Pirls study – specializing in the assessment of reading skills – which delivered these poor statistics a few days ago. What is it due to? In particular to pedagogical practices and socio-economic differences. A solution ? The expert Patricia Schillings (ULiège) fundamentally believes in the Pact of Excellence and more particularly in the new French reference systems now activated in the first four primary years.
