Senate is damaging the university’s reputation

You can follow certain developments as a silent observer for a while, albeit with disapproval, but at some point your patience will break. If the chairman of the Senate of the University of Salzburg – a law professor! – has now declared that the twice annulment of the Senate’s resolutions on the appointment of rectors by the Ministry of Science due to illegality was not embarrassing and was, so to speak, the norm, that time has come.

Through its illegal behavior, the Senate has been blocking the appointment of a rector for months, thereby damaging the reputation of this institution, which is so important to Salzburg. The University Act stipulates that the Senate must prepare a three-proposal and submit this to the University Council for a final decision. There is a sufficient number of applicants for a three-proposal from the Senate. If the Senate only creates a proposal for two people, as it has done so far, it will deprive the University Council of the opportunity to choose from three people.

The Senate is urged to immediately comply with the legal provisions.
