Senapred officials say that the director’s removal “was political and not technical” – La Discusión 2024-04-06 12:55:39

Workers of the National Service for Disaster Prevention and Response (Senapred) disagreed this Sunday with the Government’s decision to remove the director of the organization, accusing that it was a resolution of a “political” nature.

As reported by the Undersecretary of the Interior this Saturday, Álvaro Hormazábal was asked to resign, in response to “the need to give a new boost to the organization, within the framework of the different emergencies that the country has had to face.”

However, from the Association of Senapred Officials they regretted “the decision adopted by the President of the Republic (Gabriel Boric), because it unfairly makes our Service responsible for the problems” between the entity and the municipalities.

“This resolution of a political and non-technical nature does not necessarily seek to improve these problems, but rather contributes to enhancing the image of local governments that have not lived up to this catastrophe,” they indicated in a statement.

Along the same lines, Marcos Denmark, national president of the Association, maintained that the workers of the entity are “paying political costs that are fundamentally due to the bailout that the Government established with respect to the municipalities related to it, in this case, Quilpué and Viña del Mar”.

“It was easier to remove the national director and blame him for situations that are not the absolute responsibility of the Service, but of a system that is currently in the process of being installed,” added the leader.

“The law (that implemented this system) was enacted last year and is already in operation, therefore, it has not been in place for more than a year and it was clearly stressed under this catastrophe, the Viña fires in particular,” defended Denmark.
