Asuncion, IP Agency.- “A call can save a life,” is the message from the National Emergency Secretariat, which urges people to report cases of homeless people exposed to low temperatures. The institution’s shelters are operational to provide shelter to people in vulnerable situations.
The Jaho’i Operation of the National Emergency Secretariat is receiving people who need shelter from the low temperatures on Sunday night and Monday morning. Temperatures are expected to drop to 7 degrees Celsius, with even lower thermal sensations.
“We took over the guard with 38 homeless people already in the shelter. The patrols are already ready to make their rounds according to the complaints that are received by phone,” said the coordinator of shelters of the SEN, Mariano Rodríguez, on Sunday night.
He urged people to call the National Police’s 911 or 0986-111001 to report cases of homeless people who are suffering from the cold. “Your call can save lives,” he said.
The National Emergency Secretariat has a shelter with capacity for more than 50 people on the Costanera Norte in Asunción, as well as another one installed in the city of Limpio. If necessary, the institution is prepared to activate other shelter spaces on the Costanera Sur, as well as in establishments provided by the Armed Forces.
