[Reporter Hong Youfang/Hsinchu Report]The International Semiconductor Industry Association (SEMI) announced today (13) that the global sales of semiconductor manufacturing equipment will reach US$107.6 billion in 2022, a 5% increase from US$102.6 billion in 2021, setting a new record high. Among them, Taiwan has been rising for four consecutive years, reaching US$26.8 billion, an annual increase of 8%, ranking the second largest market in the world.

SEMI pointed out that although equipment investment in China has slowed down, with an annual decrease of 5%, the total sales volume reached 28.3 billion US dollars, and it has been the world’s largest semiconductor equipment market for three consecutive years. Taiwan is the second largest market, with an annual increase of 8% to reach US$26.8 billion, rising for four consecutive years. Equipment sales in South Korea fell 14 percent year-on-year to $21.5 billion. Sales of semiconductor equipment in Europe and North America both grew substantially, with the former surging by 93% and the latter by 38%. Sales in Japan and the rest of the world showed a growth trend, respectively 7% and 34%.

SEMI Global Marketing Director and President of Taiwan, Cao Shilun, said that the sales of semiconductor manufacturing equipment in 2022 will hit a record high, mainly due to the industry’s strong efforts to increase the production capacity of fabs to support the long-term growth of key end markets such as high-performance computing and automobiles. Growth and innovation needs. This dazzling figure also demonstrates the investment and determination invested by the semiconductor supply chain in various places to consolidate the nearby supply capacity.

SEMI said that in 2022, global wafer manufacturing equipment sales will increase slightly by 8%, and other front-end related equipment will also increase slightly by 11%. The demand for chip packaging equipment will not continue the strong growth in 2021, and will decline by 19% in 2022; Total test equipment sales were also down 4% from a year earlier.
