SEMANA reveals the exotic destinations to which GEA planes travel

SEMANA learned regarding the exotic destinations to which the planes of the Grupo Empresarial Antioqueño (GEA) companies usually travel.

A list references recent flights of two Challenger 300 aircraft, two Embraer Phenom, and a Beechcraft King Air 350. For security reasons, this medium refrains from revealing their license plates.

Some of the destinations were Aruba; Guanacaste (on the beaches of Costa Rica); the famous St. Martin Island, with the lush blue sea of the Caribbean; the beaches of the Bahamas; Fort Lauderdale; the tourist Punta Cana (on flights from Medellin); Curacao; Cozumel (in Mexico); as well as Cartagena and Miami. There are also flights to Brazil, in the midst of the World Cup, in 2014.

Said aircraft are registered in the name of International Executive Aviation, of the GEA companies.

Likewise, there were several flights to the city of Augusta, in Georgia, in the United States, where the traditional Master of Golf is held, where the star Tiger Woods has played. One of the flights was on April 10, 2015, just when the tournament was taking place, which was between April 9 and 12.

It is noteworthy that these aircraft are frequently used for constant flights between Medellin and Bogotá, as if they were a taxi service, polluting the environment and at high costs. This despite the fact that there are around 30 commercial flights between the two cities, in recognized airlines such as Avianca, Viva, Copa and Latam. The cost of a ticket, round trip, can be 200,000 pesos.

The list of flights known by SEMANA covers from 2013 to date, and raises questions regarding the usefulness of said trips and who was on board. Recently, former Vice President Germán Vargas Lleras, in his column on Timedenounced that the administrators of the GEA incur in all kinds of waste, at the expense of the shareholders.
