A new study from Counterpoint Research estimates that 301,9 millions de smartphones were sold worldwide in the third quarter of 2022. This is 3% more than in the previous period, a rather encouraging figure given the crisis the sector is experiencing today. A crisis which is perfectly illustrated if we compare these numbers with those of last year, when sales were 12% higher. Inflation, which pushes consumers to spend less, probably has something to do with it.
But then, which brand sold the most mobiles between July and September? For Counterpoint, it is Samsung. The firm is therefore the main competitor ofApple, second with 16% market share once morest 21% for the Asian giant. Xiaomi, with 13%, is third in the ranking, closely followed by Oppo (10%). Of course, remember that we are sharing estimates here and that the study has a certain margin of error.
The figures are very different in Europe
If we now decide to look only at the numbers of our continent, we see that Samsung remains at the top of sales with no less than 34% market share. Apple and Xiaomi monopolize the second position with 22% tied. It must be said that all these companies now offer us real panoply of devices to suit all audiences, from the richest to the most modest.
Samsung, for example, offers with the Galaxy A51 an excellent quality / price ratio for who prefers to bet on Android. The smartphone indeed costs less than 300 euros but nevertheless offers the user a large 6.5-inch screen, larger than the 6.1 inches of the iPhone 14 Pro. What’s more, depending on the version, it is possible to reach 8 GB of RAM: once more, this is more than at Cupertino.
And at Apple?
Moreover, at Apple, precisely, the prices remain much higher since theThird-generation iPhone SE, which is the cheapest at Apple, starts at 559 euros per unit. But that’s without counting on the financing offer offered in the store, which allows you to pay the amount in twenty-four instalments. Convenient for small budgets, therefore.
Otherwise, for the top of the range, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is obviously the best of all iPhones. 6.7-inch display, A16 Bionic chip, LiDAR radar for augmented reality and selfies, telephoto lens for macro photos… With this model, nothing is left to chance. Many analysts also consider that the iPhone 14 Pro range is one of the most popular at the moment, in direct competition with the Galaxy S22 from Samsung.
