When it comes to pain, we all want to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. This rush, however, often causes people to stop consulting doctors and directly seek medications to relieve symptoms. Self-medication, however, hides several risks.
According to neurosurgeon Guilherme Rossoni, self-medication masks the symptoms in a way that makes treatments difficult in the future. “Self-medication is something extremely dangerous and even fatal. In addition to consequences such as intoxication and ineffectiveness in the correct treatment, the person who self-medicates is at risk of death”, he warns.
The specialist calls for increased attention with antibiotics, drugs necessary to fight infections and which quickly gain resistance if taken without control. In addition, the neurosurgeon points out that the incorrect use of medicines like these can worsen the patient’s condition.
“When the patient arrives at the office, a series of questions are asked in order to remember facts and situations that may be related to the disease. To close the diagnosis, exams are requested. Then we can evaluate the best solution for each case, which may not even be with medication”, he details.
