ALGIERS – The control services under the Ministry of Trade and Export Promotion carried out more than 1.12 million interventions during the first half of 2023 resulting in the seizure of goods worth 1.132 billion DA , a statement from the ministry said on Wednesday.
According to the same report, the Ministry’s economic control and fraud repression activities at the national level, during the period from January to June, resulted in 1,122,692 interventions which enabled the control services to note 111,928 violations. , and to establish 106,510 legal proceedings as well as the proposal to close 7,380 commercial premises.
Compared to the same period of 2022, a slight increase was recorded in the number of offenses recorded (+2%) and a 10% increase in the minutes of legal proceedings. Interventions by control officers have been stable compared to the first half of 2022.
The number of import declarations fell by 2%, the document revealed, explaining this by “the decline in imports due to the strengthening of border control procedures within the framework of the government’s guidelines aimed at regulating foreign trade and rationalizing the imports”.
The control report on the conformity of products imported at the borders shows the processing of 22,345 import declaration files at the level of border inspections of products with a financial value of 1.122 billion DA.
The same services have established 317 decisions of refoulement of products at the borders because non-compliant with a weight of 46344 tons with a value of 9.292 billion DA, in addition to the establishment of 10 PV transferred to the jurisdictions.
In addition, a hidden turnover estimated at 30.21 billion DA was recorded in the first half of 2023, in addition to 317 cargoes prohibited from entering at border crossings.
As regards the fight against illicit speculation, 105,305 interventions were carried out during the same period. These interventions made it possible to note 72 infringements and to draw up 72 PV of legal proceedings, with the seizure of 873.24 tons of foodstuffs, of a value of 499.82 million DA.
Among the products seized as part of the fight against illicit speculation are edible oil (130,359 litres), subsidized milk (9,132 litres), semolina (162.80 tonnes), flour (213.94 tonnes) , sugar (37.61 tons), bananas, apple, onion and potato (312.66 tons) and 23,590 eggs (786 trays).
As for the evaluation of the analyses, the results showed the increase of 4% recorded in terms of the number of estimates made by measuring instruments. on the other hand, a drop of 16% was noted in terms of samples taken.
Regarding the strategic areas of control, the operations carried out in the first half of 2023, as part of the fight against the display of food products outside the premises, resulted in 131,193 interventions, 4,191 violations observed, 3,774 reports drawn up, with seizure of 298.381 tons and 37.819 liters of food products, with an estimated value of 27.80 million DA in addition to the proposed closure of 181 business premises.
Regarding the price control of subsidized and regulated milk, 73,790 interventions were carried out, with the finding of 409 offenses and the drafting of 363 lawsuits, according to the report.
35,712 interventions were also carried out in cooperation with agents of local authorities, National Security and the National Gendarmerie as part of the fight against the phenomenon of selling on the sidewalks, adds the same source, citing 1,272 offenses and 1,141 lawsuits.
As part of the fight against the phenomenon of illegal poultry slaughter, control officers under the Ministry of Trade and Export Promotion carried out, during the first half of 2023, 9,833 interventions, noted 367 violations and drafted 337 lawsuit, in addition to the seizure of 37 tons of goods with a total value of 7.63 million DA and the proposal to close 42 commercial premises.
Concerning the measures applicable to the transport of food products and drinks, the report shows 12,609 interventions, carried out during the same period, by the police, national gendarmerie and other services, with the observation of 403 infractions, the drafting of 392 lawsuits and the seizure of 57.32 tons of goods worth 26.38 million DA.
