Seismic alert will sound on all cell phones in Mexico, announces SASMEX

The Mexican Seismic Alert System (SASMEX) announced that it plans to implement a technological tool so that the seismic alert ring all cell phones without the need for internet.

Through its social networks, SASMEX announced that with this tool the seismic alert will sound in everyone the phones cell phones regardless of the phone company.

SASMEX also indicated that the seismic alert can be received in cities that have the technology Cell Broadcastwhich uses conventional cellular telephony.

“The installed telecommunications capacity of CIRES might be used to spread the seismic alert through Cell Broadcast technology”, he reported.

He also said that this will be done with the support of the Institute Federal Telecommunications (IFT) and dealers.

“Mexico is already working on it and might put it into operation in the medium term”, he pointed out without specifying a specific date.

It is worth mentioning that Cell Broadcast technology is a channel that is not affected by external factors, such as traffic, saturation in communication lines or natural disasters.

This type of technology has already been implemented in countries such as United StatesIsrael, Chile and Japan.

Just on Friday, Mexico City and several states in the country were surprised once more with the siren preventive of the SASMEX.

The purpose of the alert is for citizens to evacuate their home or work properties and achieve safeguard minutes before in case of an earthquake; however, in some cases the alert is not heard or all entities have this type of alert.
