A man “unfavorably known” by the police was taken into custody on Saturday near Paris, suspected of having killed his wife and daughter while his sister was hospitalized in “absolute urgency”.

A man was taken into custody on Saturday, suspected of having stabbed his wife and his two-year-old daughter in Aubervilliers (northern suburbs of Paris, in Seine-Saint-Denis), where his sister was is defenestrated to escape him, AFP learned from a police source and from the Bobigny prosecutor’s office. At around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, the emergency services intervened in an apartment in the city center of Aubervilliers to take care of three people including a two-year-old girl, according to a police source. The mother and child died soon following.

“Unfavorably known”

The respondent’s sister, also injured, was rushed to hospital with absolute urgency. She had jumped out the window to escape her brother, according to the police source. In addition to the “family context”, the circumstances of the tragedy are still unclear for the time being, said the prosecution. The family was not followed within the framework of a protocol of domestic violence. The thirty-something, “unfavorably known to the police,” was taken into custody.

The investigation opened for homicides by spouse and by ascendant and for attempted homicide was entrusted to the judicial police service of the department. According to the latest report from the Ministry of the Interior, 102 women were killed at the hands of their spouse or ex-spouse in 2020 in France. They were 146 in 2019.
