During this day, an official letter sent by the Ministry General Secretariat of the Presidency (Segpres) to the Board of Directors of the Constitutional Convention, where they make known their concern regarding a request they made a few days ago for an amount earmarked for the Indigenous Consultation which, in his opinion, would exceed the budget currently available to the drafting body.
“We are concerned that a few days ago (January 21, 2022) it was indicated that a budget of more than 1,410 million pesos for carrying out the indigenous consultation. The foregoing, since said amount far exceeds the budgetary availability currently available to the Constitutional Convention, even considering the amount of 974 million pesos transferred last year to the Consortium of the University of the State of Chile, which in addition to the consultation, must be used for the Secretariat of Popular Participation and the Secretariat of Communications”, they point out in the signed official letter by the minister Juan José Ossa and the undersecretary Max Pavez.
In addition, according to what is read in the letter sent to the president of the Convention, Maria Elisa Quinteros, from the Executive it is pointed out that the period established for the same process might exceed the remaining time that the institution has to deliver its final result, a new text of the Magna Carta that must be submitted to a citizen vote in an exit plebiscite.
“We are concerned regarding the fact that, generally, the Indigenous consultations are extended for periods that exceed the time remaining for the Constitutional Convention to propose a text for the New Constitution. It should be noted that our concern regarding this matter is not new, and we have expressed it in different instances to the Constitutional Convention”, they maintain from the Segpres.
Despite these objections, in the text they express their “intention to make the necessary coordination if it is pertinent and possible within the Administration”, for which they invited the entire board of directors to have a meeting during the day tomorrow, Friday, January 29.
Gaspar Dominguez, Vice President of the Constitutional Convention, responded to the letter through his Twitter account, and thanked the government authorities for their concern regarding the process and confirmed that they will hold a meeting on the matter tomorrow.
