Sonic is doing well, thank you for him. The unshakeable mascot of the former giant of the video game industry, SEGA, is still being talked regarding. After having just unveiled the latest opus, Sonic Superstars, SEGA is once once more active in the franchise and has just filed a new name.

Sonic & Friends

Obviously, SEGA seeks to perpetuate the adventures of its favorite mascot. Struggling to regain its former glory, the fastest little blue hedgehog on the planet seeks its breath through new projects: Sonic Origins Plus, Sonic Frontiers, Sonic Colors: Ultimate or the next Sonic Superstars are the most recent attempts to find the path to glory.

In Japan, however, SEGA has not said its last word and has recently filed a brevet on the Chizai Watch website. Entitled “Sonic & Friends”, this new trademark was filed on June 23 and gives some clues as to what it might be.

Thus, the patent clearly mentions terms related to the field of video games: “program for home consoles, cartridges, software for consoles”… As well as vocabulary from mobile telephony such as “shells for telephones”, “mobile accessories ” etc. As things stand, nothing surprising, patents often being not very detailed documents and sometimes only serving to secure the use of a name.

It would seem, however, that the vocabulary used does indeed relate to a video game project which will perhaps (or not) show itself by an indefinite date. To be continued…
