**Interview: The Future of Virtua Fighter with Justin Scarpone**
**Editor:** Justin, it’s exciting to hear that a new Virtua Fighter game is in development after nearly two decades since the last installment. What has driven SEGA to revisit this classic franchise now?
**Justin Scarpone:** There’s been a surge of interest in classic titles, notably during events like The Game Awards. Fans have been vocal about their desire for sequels and remakes. Virtua Fighter has a rich legacy in the fighting game community, and we recognized that it’s time to bring it back for both old fans and a new generation of players.
**Editor:** With the original Virtua Fighter being revolutionary in the fighting game genre, how do you plan to balance nostalgia with modern gaming mechanics?
**Justin Scarpone:** That’s a great question. We are ensuring that while we honor the core gameplay that made Virtua Fighter iconic, we are also incorporating contemporary features that enhance the gaming experience, be it through graphics, online multiplayer capabilities, or new character dynamics.
**Editor:** Speaking of characters, can we expect any fan-favorites to return, and will there be any newcomers?
**Justin Scarpone:** Absolutely! We’re looking to bring back beloved characters, but we also want to enrich the roster with new fighters that fit into the Virtua Fighter universe. It’s all about keeping it fresh while respecting the past.
**Editor:** with the resurgence of fighting games, do you anticipate a rivalry forming among classic franchises like Virtua Fighter, Tekken, and Street Fighter? What do you think the community will say about this?
**Justin Scarpone:** That’s part of what makes the fighting game community so vibrant! Rivalries spark debates and excitement, which is healthy for the genre. I think fans will welcome the return of Virtua Fighter, but it will certainly stir discussion about which franchise reigns supreme. It’s all in good fun, and we’re here to contribute to that lively discourse.
