A SEGA announced today that it is in the process of buying the Roviothe Finnish company behind the classic Angry Birds. According to the Japanese company, the agreement is estimated at €706 millionequivalent to almost R$4 billion.
In a press release, SEGA revealed that it is looking to “accelerate its expansion” to offer more titles on mobile devices. Even so, it is worth remembering that the company already has a good collection of titles, such as Sonic games.
Also in the statement, Haruki Satomipresident and CEOChief executive officeror executive director.”>1 from the Japanese company, wrote:
I feel blessed to be able to announce a transaction with Rovio, a company that owns Angry Birds, [um jogo] which is loved around the world and home to many skilled employees who support industry-leading mobile game development and [as] operational capabilities of the company.
A major highlight of this purchase is the access SEGA will have to the Beacon, Rovio’s platform designed to improve and simplify the design, monetization and maintenance of games – which was called by the Japanese company a “high-level experience”. In other words: it’s everything she seeks to improve existing titles and get “on the right foot” in future ones.
It is undeniable that Angry Birds was a real success. In 2014, Rovio said that the franchise had surpassed 2 billion downloads – in addition to, of course, having more than 200 million users playing the titles every month.
all this buzz on top of the game made it a movie in 2015 (“Angry Birds: O Filme”), with a sequel that arrived four years later (“Angry Birds 2 – O Filme”). Last year, the classic returned to the App Store costing R$4.90, but it was almost removed in February following impacting the performance of other developer titles.
The purchase agreement between SEGA and Rovio is expected to close “at the end of September” this year.
