The Federation of Used Vehicle Dealers (Fenauto) recently released some figures on the used car market in Brazil during the first half of 2023. Despite a reduction in June, sales in the period showed an increase.
According to Fenauto, in all, 4,271,101 semi-new or used models were sold in the first half, an increase of 15.3% compared to the same period in 2022. However, the sector registered a reduction of 7.8% in June compared to May.
The fall registered in June happened following the federal government grants incentives to automakers in order to increase sales of brand new cars. Discounts on new models reached around R$ 10 thousand and the program ended a few days ago.
“We had been steadily warming up from month to month, this year, until the announcement of tax exemption measures for zero cars. This movement may have led consumers to opt for buying from scratch, reducing the demand for semi-new and used cars”, says an excerpt from the Fenauto statement.
As for the best-selling models, it is noteworthy that most have already been discontinued. Among the 10 most sold, six are no longer manufactured by automakers and have already been discontinued, but are still strong in the used car segment.
