O Twitter is working on support video and audio calls — something already promised by the platform. Now, one of the social network’s designers, Andrea Conway, shared a screenshot of the future feature’s interface on his account. However, there is still no date for the function to be released.
Soon, therefore, it will be possible to make video and audio calls directly from the Direct Messages (DM) from app. The new interface shows a phone icon and information button in the upper right corner, making it easier to start calls.
Twitter still plans to combine the gallery, GIFs, and audio sections into a single “+” button located in the bottom left corner of the messages tab. In this way, the user will be able to quickly access and share media while chatting.
As for the calls themselves, Twitter will offer both audio-only and video-only options. During a call, it will be possible to mute the microphone, adjust the volume of the other person’s audio and even turn off the camera, if you prefer not to be seen. Also, there will be the flexibility to switch between the front and main camera.
While security details are still unclear, it is important to note that the initial release of these features may not have encryption or end-to-end encryption. Twitter, it is worth remembering, introduced encrypted direct messages only for Blue subscribers, but it is not yet known whether this level of security will be extended to video and audio calls.
The announcement takes place in the midst of competition from the Threads, a platform competing with Meta. Thus, Elon Musk’s social network seems to be “responding” to the pressure, improving its functions.
