Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Consumer Protection Secretariat (Sedeco) offers digital tools so that all citizens can access the consumer protection service and conciliatory hearings. So far this year, G. 1.5 billion has already been recovered in favor of users.
The head of the agency, Sara Irún, said that there is a WhatsApp line, a form on its website and social media, in addition to receiving complaints in person.
“Consumers have 24/7 access to this consultation area and we are also providing more staff to this mission area, because queries and complaints are a daily occurrence. You are a consumer and you have to know what is appropriate or not, what your rights are. So this is an area where we are focusing a lot of resources,” he said in conversation with government spokesperson Paula Carro.
Sedeco receives around 800 queries a month that can be formalized as complaints. The main complaints received by the Secretariat are about poor service, lack of information, undue charges, automatic contract renewal, unilateral price variation or other contract conditions.
He recalled that unilateral changes in price or contract terms are prohibited by law.
With notification to the company and the subsequent conciliation hearing, around 80% of the claims are resolved. To facilitate this task, Sedeco implemented virtual conciliation hearings.
“If it is not resolved at that stage, it will be passed on to Legal Affairs to see if it corresponds to an administrative summary with longer legal deadlines, but we try to focus on conciliation, on giving the consumer a quick solution to their problem,” he said.
