Security on WhatsApp protects companies from attacks and fraud

According to Fortinet 2022 Global Threat Landscape Report, Latin America and the Caribbean suffered more than 360 billion attempted cyber attacks last year. Mexico was the country that suffered the most from this type of attempt, with 187 billion, followed by Brazil (103 billion), Colombia (20 billion) and Peru (15.4 billion).

In a global and interconnected world, where people communicate all the time through messaging apps, data security has become strategic for companies, as it helps to guarantee the integrity and confidentiality of information. In practice, it is an operational necessity, but also a question of trust and reputation in the market.

For the president and co-founder of Tuvis, Deborah Palacios Wanzo, in such a dynamic digital environment, companies must adopt a proactive and resilient stance to face and overcome data security challenges. “This means a series of standards, policies and technologies designed to ensure that data is protected once morest threats – which includes personal customer information, trade secrets and internal company data”, explains president of Tuvis, an Israeli startup specializing in security technology. CRM (Customer Management Relationship) integration with WhatsApp through Salesforce or Microsoft Dynamics 360.

According to the executive, cyber threats are continually evolving, as cybercriminals continue to adapt and improve their methods. Attacks such as ransomware, phishing and malware become more sophisticated every day, requiring companies to continually update and adapt their defenses. “As companies adopt new technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence and cloud computing, the attack surface expands, making the task of protecting data even more challenging”, highlights Deborah.

To achieve this, it is necessary to invest in technologies capable of controlling internal data shared, whether intentionally or not, in unofficial channels. In the case of WhatsApp, the business version alone has been downloaded 143 million times, and 53% of people use the social network for work. “If there is no data governance and recorded history of conversations and documents, the company runs serious and real risks of violating laws or even violating its reputation”, reiterates Deborah.

DLP (or Data Loss Prevention, in Portuguese) consolidates practices and tools to prevent data leaks. The systems allow you to monitor and protect information in various formats such as email, file transfers, web traffic, among others. SSO – Single Sign-on, is an authentication that allows a user to log in with a single ID and password, without having to re-authenticate, for example. With integration with DLP and SSO tools, for example, it is possible to receive information in real time if confidential information is leaked or even control access to sensitive materials.

Furthermore, there are platforms that allow you to monitor the information and files transmitted by the app, always in line with the Data Protection Law. “This is monitoring carried out in professional environments, to prevent confidential data from falling into the wrong hands and prevent the loss of millions of dollars. Therefore, everything is done very closely with Compliance, to ensure that the company’s internal guidelines are also among the priorities for protecting this data”, concludes Deborah.
