Tanner: “More transparent procurement channels to prevent corruption”
Vienna (OTS) – Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner appointed the members of the Federal Ministry of Defense’s new “Procurement Review Commission” (BPK) this week. With the State Defense Financing Act (LV-FinG), which came into force at the beginning of this year, in addition to the state defense report, which the Federal Ministry of Defense submits to the National Council every year, a commission was also decided which will examine future procurement processes. This will be responsible for “ensuring that procurement projects are carried out in accordance with the law and that procurement projects are managed sparingly and appropriately”. A total of six members were appointed to the testing committee.
“I am convinced that the members have an exceptionally high level of competence and expertise in order to be able to fulfill the tasks required of them by the procurement review committee in an excellent manner. Procurement processes are to be examined with the commission specified in the State Defense Financing Act. In this way, we are creating more transparent and comprehensible procurement channels in order to prevent corruption in the processes or to prevent it from occurring in the first place,” said Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner regarding the appointment.
Six members for examination committee
The “Procurement Review Commission” consists of six members: In addition to the lawyer Priv.Doz.Dr. Bernhard Müller (DORDA Rechtsanwälte GmbH), who will head the commission, completes Dr. Gerhard Saria (University of Vienna) as deputy, Mag. Ulf Seifert (Seifert & Partner GmbH & CoKG), Dr. Gerhard Saria (University of Vienna), Dr. Remy Horcicka (H/H/R Rechtsanwälte), Mag. Harald Perl (former President BVwG) and MPA Bernhard Müller (Urban Forum) the examination committee.
The members of the Commission can act autonomously and independently within the framework of their office. The aim of the commission is, among other things, to create a catalog of criteria that contains the international standards for fighting corruption for the federal government in order to prevent corrupt arms deals. This is intended to enable a comprehensible and transparent procurement process.
