Secret Service agents shot and killed an intruder who was smashing the windows of the Peruvian ambassador’s home in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday morning.
DC police say the Secret Service is handling the investigation. The shooting occurred at the residence of Ambassador Hugo de Zela Martinez, who has served as Peru’s ambassador to the U.S. since 2019.
D.C. Police Chief Robert Contee III told reporters that the man was smashing windows with a “metal stake” at just before 8 a.m.
Secret Service officers say they first used tasers on the man, but they had no effect.
