**archyde:** Jim, thanks for joining us today. Secret Planet has become a significant fixture in the world music scene. Can you tell us about its origins and what inspired you and Olivier Conan to create this unique festival?
**Jim Thomson:** It all started back in 2012, out of a shared passion for discovering and sharing extraordinary music that defied easy categorization.Olivier, with his experience at Barbès in Brooklyn, and myself, from the Electric Cowbell in DC, saw a need for a platform dedicated to showcasing truly groundbreaking artists who transcended genre and cultural boundaries.
**Archyde:** Secret Planet has been described as a “global soundscape.” What does that concept mean to you, and how does it manifest in your programming?
**Jim Thomson:** We’re aiming to build a sonic bridge across cultures and continents, highlighting the astounding diversity and innovation happening in music today.You’ll find everything from haunting ambient harp blended with synth and vibraphone in Luciferin’s performance to the infectiously danceable rhythms of los Crema Paraíso. We want to challenge perceptions and offer audiences an immersive journey through sound.

And of course, we have many more talented artists on the bill, each offering a unique perspective and sound.
