Politicians from the US and Iran are conducting “secret” negotiations. Writes about it The Wall Street Journal with reference to sources.

According to the newspaper, consultations began in December last year. During this period, representatives of the White House have already traveled to Oman three times. The media specifies that officials are discussing the limitation of the nuclear program, as well as the release of American prisoners held by Tehran. Allegedly, in exchange, Tehran seeks to receive income from Iranian energy, which is frozen due to US sanctions. This, according to media reports, is about access to $ 7 billion, which belong to Iranian funds and are stored in South Korea, and to money received from gas and oil supplies and stored in Iraq.

The newspaper notes that the talks are focused on “reducing tensions” between the countries.

Recall that in 2015 the United States, France, Great Britain, Germany, China, Russia and Iran signed an action plan on the Iranian nuclear program, promising not to impose sanctions against Tehran in exchange for its refusal to develop nuclear weapons. However, in 2018, the US withdrew from the deal, accusing Iran of violating the agreement, and renewed sanctions against it. In response, Iran resumed uranium enrichment in excess of the stipulated level of 3.67%.
